Isaac "Ike" Hoshauer Jr., age 82, of Evansville, Indiana, died at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Deaconess Hospital.
Ike was born August 22, 1924, in Alvin, Illinois. He attended public schools in Alvin and Danville, Illinois. In April of 1944, he married Freda E. Byrne and they had a daughter, Linda Louise, who is now a nurse. Ike was a United States Army veteran, serving during WWII. Ike was a member of the American Legion Post No. 210 in Danville, Ill., and was a Disabled American Veterans life member. He was an avid baseball fan.
Ike was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church and district president of the United Methodist Men. He was a Kentucky Colonel, Sagamore of the Wabash and chairman for many years of the United Methodist Lenten Breakfast.
Ike had worked for C&EI Railroad as Captain of Police and later as an Inspector of Police in Chicago and was promoted to Assistant Trainmaster/Agent. He later retired as Trainmaster-TSC in 1983 after 50 years of service from Seaboard System Railroad (formerly L&N Railroad), now the CSX Corporation, in Evansville.
Ike was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of Lessing Masonic Lodge No. 464 since 1979, where he was a past Master. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, where he served as past Thrice Potent Master, Lodge of Perfection, Director of Food Service and a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. Ike was a member of Hadi Shrine Temple in Evansville, where his service and memberships included Hospital Staff, Samsar Club (past president), Shrine Circus Executive Committee, Arab Patrol (past Captain), Reserved Seat Chairman for 13 years, as well as honorary member of the Hadi Temple Color Guard.
Ike was an honorary member of Evansville Lodge No. 64, Reed Lodge No.316, Constellation Lodge No. 748, Daylight Lodge No. 752, Beulah
Lodge No. 758, Rizpah Shrine Temple in Madisonville, Ky., Crescent Shrine Temple in Trenton, N.J., Zorah Shrine Temple in Terre Haute, Ind., and Kosar Shrine Temple in Louisville, Ky. Ike was a member of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, where he served as Grand Representative of the Philippines. He was a past member and past president of the Masonic Temple Association Board, as well as member and past president of the Masonic Temple Past Masters Club.
Ike held memberships in the Evansville York Rite Bodies, Evansville York Rite College and Cripple Chapter No. 33 of the Royal Arch Masons of Colorado. Ike's High Twelve memberships included Evansville Downtown Club No. 240 (past president), Indianapolis Club No. 722, Fostoria, Ohio Club No. 676, Evansville Westside Club No. 367, Indiana State Association (past state president and State Secretary).
Ike was a member and past patron of the Eastern Star, Evansville Chapter No. 555, as well as life member and past Watchman of Shepards of the White Shrine, Bethlehem Shrine No. 2. He was active in the Order of DeMolay, where he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Evansville-Compton Chapter and past Dean of the South Western Indiana Preceptory.
His honor awards included Order of Demolay Honorary Legion of Honor, Grand Cross of Colors of the Rainbow Girls, International High Twelve Five Star Award (3), Grand Lodge of Indiana Meritorious Service Award and the York Rite Award of Gold.
Ike was the High Twelve International Secretary for approximately 10 years working with Laverne Thompson and Jane Johnson when the office was located in St. Louis. He moved the office to his hometown of Evansville in the latter part of 1999 where he worked daily with his local Administrative Assistant. Ike will truly be missed !
